Lettuce wilting when pick and refer for a day.

(1/2) > >>

Fireahi:
Any one have ideas why my first crop of lettuce wilts in the refer. and looks wilted and really bad looking the only thing its good for is to feed my rabbit.

Any ideas to make it last longer. One idea i seen on the www. is to leave the roots in water in the refer. any more ideas.

I don't no the the type of lettuce but it was very leafy type.

Will try to send picture later.

My friend used to grow lettuce commercially and once said to harvest in the morning to keep it from wilting. This is because of the low temp. in the morning

Angioman:
Pick befre full sun and daylight. Picking it when it is fully lit means that the stoma of the leaves are open, thus will lose a lot of moisture. Pick it in low light and you should have less stoma opening which means more fluid retention and more crisp greens... IMHO... Just my thoughts

LeonardoJ:
pick in the morning. wash, drain well, wrap (in paper towel) and put in the 'crisper' section of your fridge...

you can also try the 'towel' method

Albert:
can you only pick right before you eat it instead?
another thing we used to do in the restaurants is soak it in water to make it last longer.
