                Thanks for the link and it looks like the water lettuce will take over the pond if not controlled.

I prefer water lettuce to water hyacinth although the hyacinth does have very nice flowers. The lettuce just looks more natural somehow. But either of these can take over a pond very quickly.

The lettuce will expand quickly, but I just capped off both ends of a piece of PVC pipe to make a little floating dam. A few plants will escape over it occasionally, but it mostly keeps it from expanding too quickly. Once it fills up the available space it's growth slows down a lot. It's really easy to skim out too, I just toss all the big ones into the yard and mow over them when I do the lawn.
